As a result of participating in a quality music program, it is reasonable to expect that by the end of GRADE FOUR, a student will demonstrate an understanding of the following:
Melody: Aurally and visually recognize and perform melodic contour. Aurally describe major/minor step changes, staff, notes in spaces and around lines
Harmony: Perform 2 and 3-part rounds, partner songs and ostinatos, descants, chords, increasing in difficulty
Form: Aurally and visually recognize, verbally describe and perform AB, ABA, rondo, verse/refrain, theme and variation
Tone Color: Aurally and visually identify four orchestral instrument families
Rhythm: Aurally identify tempo, duple/triple meter. Perform steady beat/strong beat. Aurally identify and perform short/long sounds. Read and perform rhythm patterns of increasing difficulty
Expression: Visually recognize symbols and perform soft/loud, getting softer/louder, staccato/legato
